What a handsome, smiley little man he has become! Six months is one of my all-time favorite ages to photograph and Maclin was no exception. LOVE his football jersey with a vintage processing style just in time for KU football season. A future Jayhawk in the making and a little man after my own heart (sigh).

This session is a long time coming on the blog, but I’ve been meaning to share it since last year (yes, you read that right). One of my favorite sessions ever with one of my favorite families ever – rich with color, textures and beautiful light.

Colorful is right! Love this whole session and coveting the kids curls! Thanks for sharing with us.

Her mom and I began talking about this session in January well before her sweet girl entered this world. Little did we know at the time, that they lived just one street behind me and our children go to the same preschool. (Clearly I need to get away from this computer more and meet the neighbors!) From these images, we created a definite conversation piece in her home out of a new line of custom-framed circle prints I now offer and I couldn’t be more excited. The clock image below worked so well in a circle frame. And those two tiny feet tattooed on dad’s back …. one each of big brother and little sis. Love that!

Meet Savannah.

  • Oh my yumminess!!! That clock image in the circle frame is to.die.for. Love, love love it!!

I shot their family of four last fall and was delighted when mom called to tell me they were expecting baby #3 this year. He kicked off a baby boom for my studio that only recently slowed down and I couldn’t be happier to have been able to capture this fleeting moment in their lives as he is changing quickly through his various surgeries. Despite being just 9 days old, his laid back disposition was already so apparent – and there is simply no mistaking how much he is adored.

Meet sweet Lucas.

She had her eyes on me for a good portion of our session allowing us to capture her curious little expressions. And then, just when I thought it might not happen, she dozed off long enough to do some positioning in the vintage little baby bed, complete with an heirloom rattle her mom brought along. I’ve been shooting babies like crazy and nearly all have been born early which has made for an interesting schedule since early May. I’m now booking September through year-end babies, so don’t hesitate if you’re interested in a session – the spots go fast.

A few favorites from her session:

These sessions were completed a few months back, but I’ve been backlogged with shooting, post-processing and other back-end administrative projects. Basically all of the things it takes to run a business – many of which aren’t readily apparent until several years into a business when you become intimately familiar with the way you work and it hits you that there are better ways to automate processes.

So much goes into the day-to-day behind the scenes that the actual camera/shooting end of a photographer’s job becomes a pretty small portion of the time spent running a business. I’ve heard from other photographers, experienced and new, who say the same thing – it’s often a sobering realization that there’s so much more than “just a camera” to make a successful go in this industry.

On the flip side, “there’s so much more than just a camera.” Like the friendships we make along the way. Watching babies grow into young adults. And the lasting memories we are able to create out of the connections we capture among siblings, moms, dads and families.

Two recent family sessions and some of my favorites (btw … if you’re thinking fall pictures, contact me asap as I’m booking September through year end now):
